Running Berlin!? For the 41st time the capital will be all about the BMW Berlin Marathon 2014 on September 28th. Forty thousand runners from all over the globe are going to participate, among them the best of our time.
Not only is the Berlin Marathon one of the largest and most popular, it’s also considered one of the fastest: all men’s marathon world records since 2003 were set here, the latest by superstar Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich last year. The exact 42.195 kilometers are particularly attractive since the course leads in a circle through the entire city core, passing countless sights. Thus Berlin will focus entirely on the marathon on the last September weekend.
You can cheer at the runners all over the city, for instance at Kottbusser Damm in Kreuzberg or at Lichtenberger Straße in Friedrichshain, both spots are not even 15 minutes from Industriepalast Hostel. Still, the most impressive setting will be at the finish line right at Brandenburg Gate, where fans, reporters, and visitors from all over the world are going to carry the runners to their aim with big applause. Unfortunately it’s too late to sign up for this year’s marathon, but if you feel like challenging yourself, signing up for the Berlin Marathon 2015 starts in a couple of weeks already.
By the way, the classic marathon is not the only event during the weekend: on Saturday the inline skating marathon takes place over the same distance, furthermore the children’s marathon (4.2 km). On Sunday there will, besides the classic marathon, be the wheelchair marathon and the one for power walkers. We can also expect a very unique atmosphere due to the Music Marathon: Every 500 meters one out of 80 bands will perform, giving new hope to the tired runners and great appeal to the audience.
For a long marathon day nothing is as important as a comfortable night sleep. Still need a bed? Time to book your perfect weekend at Industriepalast Hostel. On Sunday we will even provide you with an extra early sports breakfast! So tie your running shoes and get ready for this year’s biggest sports event.
