It’s been a long cold lonely winter, but finally here comes the sun. And since a beatless summer (pun intended) ain’t no proper summer there’s nothing we anticipate as much as the many music festivals in and around Berlin. Dancing in the sun, partying under the open sky – that sounds like something you would enjoy? Then check out these amazing festivals in and around Berlin for 2016! We from Industriepalast Hostel saved you the research time and put together the dates you should highlight in your calender:
Heartbeat of the city
Sure, the highlight of the year will be Lollaplooza Festival on September 10 and 11. Only last year the legendary party from the US grew a German offshoot but already it has become Berlin’s biggest Music Festival. This year’s venue will not be the abandoned Tempelhof Airport but rather Treptower Park with its vast green meadows – a great place to hang out with 50.000 other people.
Still, September is a bit far down the road, right? Luckily enough the summer has only begun and there are many more festivals waiting for you. Just like small and charming Torstraßen Festival on June 4 to 5 or the grand gathering of all guitar rock and motorbike folk: Pure & Crafted at Postbahnhof on August 12 and 13. If you want to find out about contemporary German language pop music check out Deutschpoeten on September 2 and 3 in the beautiful ICC Summer Garden. The ever-popular Berlin Music Week is no more, but its successor Pop-Kultur in trendy Neukölln is just as promising: Not only great concerts but also workshops, talks and many other exciting events will be happening from August 31 to September 2.
Wouldn’t you just wish that some festivals would last all summer long? Well, Citadel Music Festival does just that: All throughout June, July, and August top-class concerts and shows will rock the impressive backdrop of Spandau Citadel. However, if you are more of a techno person, you can look forward to Greenwood Festival from July 15 to 18. The same venue, namely the shores of Kiekebusch Lake not far from the recently constructed ruins of Berlin’s new-but-never-to-open Airport BER, will be home to Secrets Festival again. And even though last year’s premier didn’t really go well, the organisers promise that from August 12 to 14 they’ll be holding quite a rave of “food, art, and music”.
Raving the countryside
If you’ve been to a number of festivals you’ll probably agree that the best things often happen in the middle of nowhere rather than the city. Brandenburg (the province surrounding Berlin) is vast, thinly populated, and full of green secluded meadows. The perfect region for a number of great festivals not far from the German capital. The legend will start the ball rolling again: Fusion from June 29 to July 3 is arguably one of the most famous raves in the world. If you didn’t manage to get one of the rare tickets, try out Feel Festival on Bergheider Lake from July 7 to 11. This year for the first time the line up will not be public beforehand, so it might feel just a bit like Fusion.
A bit closer to the mainstream but still colorful and unique is Melt! Festival in the “iron city” Ferropolis close to Gräfenhainichen on July 15 to 17. For those who need more of a techno rave it’s worth waiting a week and visiting the Nation of Gondwana a week later. Not even three years old but already quite a legend is Wilde Möhre from August 12 to 14, the insider’s tip might well be one of the most magical raves of the year. Another newcomer from last year is alínæ lumr and it is one that takes a different path: handmade music, minimalistic setup, the quiet beauty of little things. Storkow, August 26 to 28.
Whichever festival you find most promising, with the immense amount of different raves the summer 2016 will be nothing short of a real summer of love! We from Industriepalast Hostel are looking forward to being your headquarter for all expeditions into the music landscape of Berlin. What’s left to do now? Purchase a ticket for your favorite festival and book a room here with us. And it will be sun, beats, drinks, and unforgettable moments.
Enjoy the music summer 2016,
