Exhibitions Berlin 2013
Those ones of you who are interested in art, culture and history, will be excited about the great amount of exhibitions in Berlin. Very close to our Industriepalast, there was for instance a big exhibition until the beginning of September dedicated to the Egyptian pharaoh Tutanchamun. Over a period of six months, visitors could explore the tomb and treasures of Tutanchamun inside the Arena Berlin – either with a guided tour or on their own. Another cultural highlight in September was the second Berlin Art Week from 17th to 22nd September. At this festival, visitors could see high class exhibitions, vernissages and interesting special projects at 10 cool locations.
If you missed the Berlin Art Week this year – don’t worry! You are still able to see the cooperation project called “Painting forever!” until 10th November which was a part of the Berlin Art Week. This project presents classic paintings as well as modern installations and is hosted by four different locations and deals with the question “What does painting mean today?”. For photography fans, there is an interesting photo exhibition of Janos Frecot at the Fehrbellinerplatz. Frecots photos were taken in the years from 1964 to 1966 and show you what Berlin looked like in the 60s. You get to this exhibition within about 20 minutes by Underground.
You don’t feel like visiting an ordinary exhibition? Then maybe the festival “Berlin leuchtet” (= Berlin glows) is the right thing for you. From the 4th to the 20th October, some of the most important and famous buildings of Berlin are illuminated in different colors to present the special sights of the city in a special way. If you are lucky, you might also be able to see an illuminated S-train.
If you are travelling as a school class, we recommend you to visit one of Berlin’s interactive and fun exhibitions where you can experience art hands-on and living history. The GDR museum near the museum island is really interesting to see. Here you can actually enter a living room which is designed in the original GDR style. Or if it’s a rainy day on your school trip and you don’t know what to do – just visit the miniature world Berlin inside the shopping mall “Alexa” at Alexanderplatz. Here you can see the city of Berlin in small format. Another fun activity on a rainy autumn day would be the indoor-black light mini golf complex in the Görlitzer Park which is just two Underground stops away from our hostel.
You’re not in Berlin this October? Most of the exhibitions mentioned in this blog are taking place over a couple of months until the end of 2013.
